Case Studies

The aim of the case studies is to provide examples of effective practice and recent innovations in studio within Art, Architecture and Design disciplines in Australia. They include a diverse range of studies drawn from a broad range of disciplines, teaching staff, projects, programs and institutions.

Potential case studies were identified in feedback and input provided at the two National Studio Teaching Forums, and the STP Head of School Survey (Question 9: outline examples of recent innovations with studio teaching in your programs). Further examples will be provided and included by academics presenting at the National Studio Teaching Forum: Enriching Creative Arts Learning in Hobart, Tasmania in December 2009.

While the case studies represent examples from Art, Architecture and Design Programs, there are numerous skills and strategies within each case study that are easily transferrable to each of these disciplines.  As a result, the case studies have been divided into the following categories which best provide the opportunity to view the diversity of initiatives:

  • Assessment, feedback and presentation

  • Course structure, content and management

  • Integrating technology, online and virtual studio initiatives

  • Cross-discipinary, cross-cultural, interdisciplinary and experiential learning

  • External connections with industry, professional, vocational, cross sector, work integrated

  • All case studies

Please note: the information contained within each case study has been provided and checked by the nominated academic and/or the institution
